vlc 2.0 time toolbar

Hi, I installed the latest vlc player 2.0 and I saw that the 'time toolbar' has been changed. It is much harder now to move the bar to an earlier time. And it has a fancy blue bar following it.

I use vlc to play live tv broadcasts via .ts file recorded from a dvb-t broadcast using Dv Scheduler - if I want to skip back, it was much easier to seek to a point eg. skipping tv ads or boring bits etc. And had no blue bar.

Now with version 2.0, it has been ruined.
I reverted back to 1.1.11 and it works perfectly fine now.

Could you please bring back the old 'time toolbar' in 2.0, it was perfect.

Thank you,
Jim

First, I do not see how it is harder to go to an earlier time. Please explain?
Then, for the blue bar, there will be an option in 2.0.1

Jim, I agree with you completely about the new change to the default behavior of the 'toolbar'. After some trial and error I found that 'Show controls in full screen mode' under interface did not function correctly. I had to remove the check, save, restart VLC, start VLC, viola. To get the layout back, customize interface, profiles at bottom, VLC 1.x style.
I suspect this may be a bug or oversight and I plan to file a bug report, if possible.

This worked for me and I hope it works for you.

A note for Jean,

Your response in my opinion was horrible and did not come close to addressing the issue or giving an option to obtain help. Even directing Jim to the WIki or FAQ would've been better than your response.

The problem Jim was having, as myself, is ease of use. Instead of simply hovering the mouse to the bottom of the video window, finding the video controls have awaken for use was not there. Instead we had to exit full-screen mode, to go the option we wanted, make change, go back to full-screen mode.
I am aware of how to use every shortcut key to navigate the video, but I should also have the same options I had in VLC 1.x.

I need more info. How is it not ok?

Quick update - I installed 2 versions: vlc ver 2.0, then installed ver 1.1.11 in another directory with minimal options (no file associations etc), now I have ver 2.0 to playback everything except .ts - it's opened with ver 1.1.11 (file associated settings in win7)

Thanks for your help,
Cheers, Jim

I found the info from another post: Re: 2 versions of vlc

We use multiple versions of VLC on each Windows machine without a conflict. I use the normal installers, and to keep things straight, just alter the installation directory slightly. During setup, I change "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" to "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC115\vlc.exe" or C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC096\vlc.exe", etc. This keeps all installations in the normal VideoLAN directory, but subdivided by version. Hope this is clear.

You still not explain what is not ok with TS...

At the very least I thought you would have posted a link to the help topic regarding the items in question. I understand you are busy and you are quite active on the forums here, which is appreciated.

I just thought a quick simple answer that had no positive affect wasn't conducive for Jim's problem.

On another note, changing any option under 'Customize Interface' breaks video controls in full screen until that option is toggled on/off and VLC is restarted. Is this a known bug or should I file a bug report somewhere?

You would have to see what I mean with live tv recordings on a .ts file, here are some screenshots (it's the best I could do:

http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/8195/vlc1111.jpg As you can see on the bottom right side, the counter stays 00.00/00.00 and it's so easy to skip back or forwards.

http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/2549/vlc20.jpg Here you can see on the bottom right side the counter is displayed, when the blue bar reaches the far right, it continues on playing the video but if I want to skip back (on a longer tv recording) the time toolbar gets confused - either replays on what was played before, or makes it harder now to go forward or stay on track again, I would need to close vlc and start again.. - it's hard to explain sorry :(

Anyway... please bring back the old time toolbar for a future version on Vlc player - it was the best. - I've tried switching to the 'old style' but it doesn't work.

** another thing to add; if I want to increase the volume level it will only go up to 200% and the sound becomes scratchy and mono. In vlc 1.1.11 it would go up to 400% and the sound is still clear. - on any audio: mp3s, streams etc

that's okay, I'll keep 3 versions still; 2.0 for most things (music streaming - security update reasons), 0.99 for live .ts recordings and 1.1.11 for avi/mpegs/flv

Jean, it looks like he's talking about the index being built for the .ts files he's attempting to watch. Possibly a codec issue?

AFAIK there isn't any index build for TS files. Index is only (re)build for broken AVI files.

Indeed. It still makes no sense.
