Full screen difference on computers

Hello,

When I watch a mkv (1920x815) on my computer and go to full screen the video is on my entire monitor.
When doing the same on my laptop i keep black borders on top and bottom. All settings are the same. Aspect ratio standard.

What does aspect ratio standard actually do instead of selecting 16:9?

I updated to version 2. Is now the same on both. But video is now displayed with black lines on top and below on both systems. Aspect ratio is set to standard.
When I set to 16:9 I get full screen without black line top and below but image is stretched. What does standard actually do in aspect ratio? And what does 16:9 forces it to 16:9?

Aspect ratio of 1:1 PAR 1920x815 video is 2.35:1, so you will get black bars with 16:9 display.

What the aspect ratio option in VLC does is defined in help

Code: Select all

--aspect-ratio=<string> Source aspect ratio This forces the source aspect ratio. For instance, some DVDs claim to be 16:9 while they are actually 4:3. This can also be used as a hint for VLC when a movie does not have aspect ratio information. Accepted formats are x:y (4:3, 16:9, etc.) expressing the global image aspect, or a float value (1.25, 1.3333, etc.) expressing pixel squareness.
