Leave-full screen, video moves to top left of screen?

Hey, I'm having the following issue:

v 2.0.0 Windows XP:

I position the VLC window somewhere on my screen. Enter full screen mode. Exit full screen mode. This causes the VLC video window to jump to top-left corner of screen.

Previously (1.x.x) video would return to original spot you had dragged it to. Its size remains the same as before you enter full-screen mode, but its position is adjusted every time.

I looked through all the options and could not find anything regarding "Restore video to original position" or something similar.

Interestingly enough, VLC does remember its original position if you close a video and open it. It's only when you leave full-screen that it ignores its previous location and jumps to top left.

Thoughts?

This is a bug. File a report on trac, please.

I can also fill this in case you don't want to open a trac account. BTW this doesn't happen with Vista.

It seems to be XP related.

Sure, thanks.

I will open it during a weekend (I will test with 2003).

I just noticed that it only happens if the window is dragged offscreen (whatsoever) to the top or left, not if the screen is dragged offscreen to the right or bottom.

I came here to post the same problem. I noticed the behavior on my Win7 machine, when the window is off screen and you go to full screen and return, it is restored to the top left window. Actually I can see it move up to the corner while I'm jumping to full screen mode.

Actually I can see it move up to the corner while I'm jumping to full screen mode.
I can confirm this behavior in Windows XP SP3. For ~50-150ms or so you can see the small-version of the window overlayed on top of the full-size window up at the top-left corner, so it's pretty clear the bug starts from the moment you ENTER full screen, not when you EXIT full screen. As soon as you ENTER, the position of the small window is moved to 0,0, so when you EXIT, that is where it appears.

In other words:

1) Small window's top-left corner is positioned arbitrarily at 800,478 (vertical, horizontal)
2) Double-click to initiate full-screen
3) Small window moves to 0,0 and is top layer while bottom layer that is full screen loads
4) Full-screen moves to top and/or small-screen layer disappears in about ~50-150ms
5) Full screen appears normally
6) Exit full-screen
7) Small window shows up where it was moved to in #3, top left, 0,0

Also, and possibly very important for someone trying to fix this:

I've noticed if I let a video hang off the ride side of the screen (so it is cropped by the right edge of the monitor), it works perfectly, and goes back to that spot. It's only when the small video is entirely within the viewable screen-area that it moves to the top left. What's interesting to me at least, is when you move the video far enough right (so say, you can only see the left half of the video), you can still see the little ghost window in #3, but the bug is not persistent. And even then, in playing with it, sometimes after I try to test that, the results are inconsistent -- it's like the bug is intermittent, or based on previous actions (like dragging the window off-screen slightly, full-screening, exiting full screen, etc. but once you restart the player it happens all over again)

This is a regression because it used to work just fine and still hasn’t been fixed as of 2.1.2.

Please try 2.1.3

Please try 2.1.3
2.1.3 is still doing it, even in XP. It is a conflict with the Windows Classic theme. It worked in VLC 1.x, so obviously something in the positioning code from the 2.x branch was changed to break it.

This is frustrating all the more so because VLC does not have a borderless mode, so we have to resort to dragging the titlebar up beyond the top of the screen to save even those couple of dozen pixels (especially since vertical real-estate is smaller than horizontal, particularly on laptops and netbooks).
