Hi everyone !

I have screen flickering using vlc and hd files with my video card ati mobility radeon hd 5650

The settings are the default .

Right now i'm trying to watch spartacus episode 2 of season 2 (not sure if this matters) and there is screen flickering .

The screen flickering isn't a lot , but it can be noticed when there are fast scenes .

Does anyone know how to fix this issue ?

I'm using windows 7 x64

Do other video output modules work any better?

I have tried all other output modules

It seems that with directx instead of direct3d which is the default , there is no flickering . At least i haven't noticed any .

But why doesn't it work well with direct3d?

And also what's the difference with directx ? Will it decrease the picture quality?

Picture quality should be same with DirectX and Direct3D in case your display adapter drivers aren't buggy.

Well i don't know what the difference is really . All i know is when i used direct3d as output with fast scenes , there are lines in the screen shaking . It is not lagging but there are lines shaking constantly when there are fast scenes .

When i use direct directdraw there is no such thing , but with anime with softsubs the subtitles are blurry and not sharp . Also i can notice that there is lower cpu usage with direct directdraw being used instead of direct3d . I have the latest directx drivers , i've been having this issue for some time .

I’ve figured out the problem with vlc . After unchecking accelerated video output (overlay) the screen flickering disappears . So now with direct3d output , accelerated video output disabled and gpu decoding enabled there is no screen flickering . What does exactly the accelerated video output offer and is it ok to leave it disabled?

It uses Overlay for drawing video.
