Movie won't play/buffer with subs, fine without subs

Hi everybody,

So basically, this is my problem:
When I play a movie I ripped (.2mts) in VLC 1.1.11, it works just fine. However, I ripped it without subs, and on second thought wanted English subtitles. So I downloaded a file with an .srt-extension, changed it to the exact same filename and -path as the movie. What happens now, is that when I open the movie, it won't play or buffer. It says 00:00 / 00:00 in the bottom right corner. Very strange right?

So to sum it up:
- without .srt subs, my .2mts movie plays fine.
- with .srt subs, my .2mts movie won't play or buffer.

Please help?

Known issue. Use VLC 2.0.0 nightly builds.

I'm sorry, but what is there to use and how do I do that?

You can either install latest 2.0.0 .exe or unzip .7z/.zip to some folder and run VLC from there.

Well, that only partially helped - now it shows the overall movie-time, but it freezes at 00:00 and doesn't play anyway... Any more suggestions?

Ow bytheway I installed vlc-2.0.0-rc1-20120206-0207-win32.exe 06-Feb-2012 02:38 21M .

Does Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) complain something?

Yes, it says the following:

main warning: no vout found, dropping subpicture
main warning: can't get output subpicture

I hope this info helps in solving the problem?

And if the info above doesn't help; what else do I need to post?

I need all messages, open the message dialog before you start the playback.

Yes. Remove the .srt file from same folder. It causes issues for TS playback.

I see it works without the .srt file. However, that's the file I planned on using as subtitles, which kind of was my original problem. So either I find another way to use the subtitles, or I'm back to square one. When I first play the movie and use subtitles via Right click - Subtitles - open file and open the file, it causes the player to stop working...

I'm sorry, but the best solution is to download another video player? That doesn't sound very convincing for a VLC-helpdesk, or am I missing something?

Is it the easier way if you want the subtitles.

Other thing you can try is to force Avformat demuxer from Tools -> Preferences (Show settings: All) Input/Codecs -> Demuxers

That demuxers thing worked! Thanks! Are there any other major consequences to changing that setting I need to know about? Just in case there is some known side-effect of this setting...

Some files might not open with avformat demuxer.
