How to save video files

Postby blindy8 » 25 Dec 2011 22:36

I am completely clueless regarding the jargon and technology regarding streaming videos. I'm running Windows XP and a dentist sent me a video file done at a convention for him but is worried that the link will soon expire. He wants to download and save the file and wants me to send it to him if I can do it. I am very confused how to use VLC media player to resolve this as I don't understand the terms in the help file. I would like to know how to do this because I can use this process to save streaming video files as it would be helpful in my business. I did download netvidhunter, which is a Firefox add-on that supposedly captures streaming video files but when I started running the file in question, the file did not show up as being automatically viewed as was suggested in their help screeen. One of the members of the techguy forums tried to save this file but said the player that was being used did not show the code. I'm not even sure if VLC media player saves video files and if I have to download something else. In other words, I'm completely confused.

Open VLC, check Tools -> Advanced Controls

then open the URL with VLC, and press the red recording button. Video should be saved to My Videos folder. Press the red recording button again when you want to stop the recording (in case you don't want to save whole stream).
