Any specific way to disable red hat on icon? It is on the vlc cone.

Solution:
VLC v2+ has support to disable the Holiday icon. Still same location described in this post.

Location:
Menu bar, select Tools Then Preferences, Tick "all" for show settings.

Tools/Preferences/Interface/Main Interfaces/QT. Scroll down to Allow automatic icon changes, Untick.

Thanks to Jean-Baptiste Kempf.

Edit info:
Removed old, no more needed info, link to 1.2.0 pre3 as VLC v2+ supports disabling Holiday icon.

The easiest way to disable the red had icon is to change the date on your computer to before December 18th. After the Christmas season, change the date back to the normal date.

If you need any help, message me,

Eric

Thanks for the info on the update. So there's really no way just to revert to the original icon without updating? (and no, I'm not going to change the date on my computer -- was that intended as a joke?)
Since VLC is working fine for me, apart from the obnoxious icon, I won't bother to update; I'll just add this silly icon to all the other junk I have to try to ignore after two and a half months of Christmas blah blah blah.
I'm surprised the developers decided to force their "Christmas spirit" on us like that.

Cannot believe you are complaining about the Santa hat icon. Wow. Complete loss of words. You Jewish? An atheist? Some other type of religion? Get over it, it's just an icon. If you don't like it, use another player. People like you make the Christmas season seem wrong to people who actually celebrate it. We celebrate it, you don't. We get it. Who cares?

@BCArmstrong

I believe it was meant as a joke. :/

@Residual

Does it matter? End result is end users preference.

Admin/Mod, please lock the thread as it was solved, so it does not continue with trolls with comments that do not belong.

Thanks.

I downloaded and installed 1.2 per the above link. However, on the Interface Settings Page, I don't find ".../Main Interfaces/QT. Scroll down to Allow automatic icon changes, Untick." The only significant change I see on this page from 1.1.11 is the addition of a Playlist section.

Did I download the wrong version?

Did you go to "all" category?

I'm lost here. From the Menu bar, I select Tools. Then Preferences on the dropdown list. Then I select Interface. There are 5 major catagories/boxes on that page: Language, Look and Feel, Instances, Privacy/Network Interactions, and Playlist. I don't see the word "All" anywhere on this page, nor do I see "Main Interfaces."

So I need some more specific guidance, please.

THEN, click on "all"

OK, I finally found "All". Under Show Settings in the left column. Made the change. Sorry for being so stupid.

With new release of VLC 2.0.0 it is finally possible to disable the holiday icon and classic cone icon.

But how can I disable the cone icon from the Firefox Plugin?

For 2.0.0, Yes. I just checked. As there haven't been any holidays, I forgot to check it out when I installed 2.0.0.

Op will be update.

As too for the plugin, I myself have no idea.

I think he is just talking about the cone icon itself? Hard to justify which way he is talking about. The icon itself or as you said it, there is no holiday icon for the plugin.
But how can I disable the cone icon from the Firefox Plugin?

I'm just wondering if sercia's question above has an answer. I too want to completely disable the cone icon in the Firefox plugin. Changing the setting in VLC player seems to only work there, not in the plugin. I've done some Javascript magic to try to hide VLC until the video gets going, but this is an imperfect solution because it seems that in certain scenarios when loading, VLC shows on top of other elements for a split-second, and the result is a quick flicker of the cone.

I'm running under Windows 7 and have control over the PCs that will be running this, so if there's a config file or registry entry I could manually edit to suppress it, that would be good enough to solve my problem.

The plugin does not have the holiday icon, and yes, it should be deactivable...
