How do I get VLC (1.1.11 for 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate) to do FULL Blu-Ray playback? I rip all of my Blu-Rays, and keep them on my hard drive. Sometimes it's the full disc, and sometimes it's just the file itself, in .m2ts format. I want VLC to output in 1080p/24 and 7.1 DTS-HD Master and Dolby-TruHD if possible. How do I get VLC to do this? And is there a way to make it the default?

Try a VLC 1.2 (Branch) nightly build.

But AFAIK DTS-HD Master and Dolby-TruHD aren't supported.

7.1 MLP should be supported, yes.

I just tried trunk 1.3.0-git-20120111-0008 Rincewind, on a Bocelli Under Desert Sky DVD and hear nothing using WinXP on Realtek ALC883, and see Codec info of
MPEC AAC Audio (mp4A), channels=2, SampleRate=48K, Bits=16, Bitrate=1536kb/s. VLC 1.1 same info, same behavior. File is MP4 container created by ffmpeg, audio track is -copy1 (unmodified) of the DVD's DTS track. The AC3 5.1 tracks work fine, I usually use those, but not always available. Almpst always, VLC misidentifies these DTS tracks as 2 channels.

FFPLAY of 5 Dec 2011 plays fine, and identifies the audio as Stream #0:2[0x8a]: Audio: dts (DTS), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), s16, 768 kb/s

Boxee Box plays these files ok as well.

All other features (except multicast) work great Keep up the good work.

Which OS/sound hardware did you test with? If Windows, did you add anything to the audio drivers library?

Another question. Why is it when I rip the entire Blu-Ray disc, I can't get the menu to show up in VLC? I have to drill down into the stream folder, and play individual files. I want to load it up just as if I'd put the actual, physical Blu-Ray disc in.

All the files (about a dozen confirmed) with DTS audio tracks look like this in VLC and don't play audio. FFMPEG doesnt have a problem with identifying the headers, nor does Boxee. Both DVD and BluRay sources, acquired via different programs. I also tried different PCs with different OS, and different versions of VLC, same problem.

I am trying in the meantime to lower the audio bitrate to something lower than 1.5 Mbits (because that's about the size of the whole MP4 video track) and AAC/AC3 to get around this, as VLC is my favorite PC player. FFMPEG has issues converting AC3 to stereo a while back, so I don't have much confidence in this.

Bad bits, especially from CD or DVD are always a possibility. Bits that look bad because of spec misinterpretation?

Should I give you a link to DTS-only file with no video to check what's wrong with the header? I can try to help if I know what I am looking for. Here is a level 2 debug stream: h t t p : //s88957110.onlinehome.us/space/dtsaudio.txt, it looks like the Box demux just got 2 channels, I can't tell why.

I also see the same problem with latest trunk and branch vlc. An mp4 with dts track is not detected, though it works with recent ffplay. Please let me know if you have a resolution and/or need a sample file.

Has there been any work on DTS HD Master yet? Just bought the extended editions of The Lord of the Rings and ripped them onto my hard drive. Really like to be able to watch the .m2ts files in 6.1 DTS HD Master!
