vlc glitches when playing dvd

Hi!
I am using a laptop with windows vista. I re-installed windows yesterday as i just wanted to start over fresh, - and i downloaded VLC as one of the first softwares I felt I needed.

So today I got a new DVD. The first menu and intro plays properly (i can choose from Play movie, select chapters and extras) - when I use the arrow to select Extras, it starts to glitch. I cannot chose any of the extras, the arrow wont select any.. and when I try the arrows - it only goes to the right, no matter if I press up,down or left (and pressing enter does nothing). I try to use the left-click menu and choose any titles/chapter there but it doesn't respond when I press anything. Also the little bar wit the timer/clock goes blue sometimes and everything stalls.

I've tried using WMP aswell and the first menu works here aswell, but not the other ones. In WMP though, I can work around this somewhat, as there's a menu on the left where I can choose title/chapter etc..and in WMP this works. So for now I am using WMP. The thing is, I use VLC because the recording option is superb to make small videos that I can later work on, making animated gifs. And I don't know any other software that will cut pieces of video with such quality like VLC.

I've had DVD-vlc issues before but none like this one.

Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) might give you more details. But most likely it is a badly authored DVD or there is some sort of copy protection mechanism that causes issues.

You can jump directly to certain chapter via right click or via Media -> Open Disc...

Thank you! The message center doesn't give me any errors as far as I can tell, but atleast I can choose chapters by using to Media - open disc. I know some DVDs are a bit wonky, especially the menus, but atleast now i can play the parts I want! :) again, much appreciated!
