Setting Dolby 5.1 as default

Hey I'm new to this site, I am a member of other forums but this is my first visit here. I've been using VLC media player for a few months now. But when I toggle a number of videos into the playlist so I don't have to keep leaving to chose another video, during the switch of the next item on my playlist my audio settings are reset back to default. I don't know if there is a way to choose Dolby 5.1 as my default setting, if there is can someone help me please. It is frustrating that I'm relaxing, watching TV or movies, but have to change settings between every video. I hope this isn't a "dumb" question, as I said I'm relatively new to the use of VLC. But find it far better than Windows Media Player. Thanks for any help at all on this topic.

You can't set Dolby 5.1 as default audio track with VLC. You can select SPDIF output as always on, and you can force VLC to use certain audio track (based on number).

Ok, well I'm not so computer savvy, can you explain to me how to do that and what the benefit would be? I would really appreciate you help on this one, thanks Master

For SPDIF, Tools -> Preferences (Show settings: All) Audio, then tick Use S/PDIF when available, press Save and restart VLC.
For track, Tools -> Preferences (Show settings: All) Input / Codecs, then Audio track, Audio language and Audio track ID options.
