vlc shutdown when i try to associate files

Hi

i'm running vlc under w7 and xp sp3

i downloaded the 7zip file

when i try to associate files to vlc , it does shutdown :(

and can i change the association file icons?
should i download an icon file inside the vlc folder?

You can reinstall to change it.

You need the .exe installer.

This error was from a lot of time and version ago.
It's getting in a cicle of time, was solved and goes again in the next version.
Why not made a external program for manage extensions of vlc wich will be invoked by the button of the file extensions inside of vlc, then it doesnt will broken in a new version?.

Nobody is really interested about this. And the current way should be Default Programs feature of Windows Vista/7.

i can understand but change the association of some (video) files after the installation could be very useful, because the only fix is re-install vlc and so we can change some association

i guess would be useful
