Changing the VLC.exe Taskbar Icon

Postby Masonnel » 20 Oct 2011 04:58

Alright, I've browsed these forums and have seen some threads on changing the VLC icon (I've got nothing against bright orange cones, but I just want something that fits more with my theme), but none have really addressed this issue as far as I can tell. I want to change the Taskbar icon. Not file associations or the shortcut, as I've already managed to replace the cone for those. I'm going to put up some pictures, because they're worth a thousand words. I started with the most obvious solution, ResHacker, and replaced all the icons in Group 1033:

Still, the icon in the Taskbar is the orange cone.

As a secondary issue, you'll notice that VLC Media Player.exe is capitalized in the .exe properties (upper left of the first image), but it remains lowercase in the Taskbar as well. I don't mind the non-capitalization as much as the icon. Please, any tips? Thanks.

There isn't any VLC Media Player.exe file. It is vlc.exe with official releases.

And we won't help you with this, since this thread would be too valuable to scammers.

Thanks for the quick response. If I was editing the wrong .exe, that'd certainly explain why it wasn't working, haha. I'll have a closer look and see if I can't figure it out.

As for scammers, while I don't know what incentive scammers would have when this is free software, I understand your concern. Is there any way to discuss it privately, without taking up too much of your time so you can focus on other issues?
