Frame loss in VLC 1.2

I experience frame loss in VLC 1.2 in videos that are playing fine in VLC 1.1.11.
It happens while heavy hardware consuming parts of the tested videos (e. g. if I turned off GPU accelerated decoding and played those in VLC 1.1.11 it would start losing frames there too).
Unfortunately I only was able to test it with 1080p H.264 mkv videos.
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
VLC version: 1.2.0-git-20111018-0003
Processor: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti
