URGENT!!!!! How to tell VLC player to hold on...

I am trying to watch a film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPXD4ipoMQ8

Sadly, I have a wifi signal that is easily interrupted.
I unplug the router, wait 10-15 seconds, then plug it back in.

Unlike Firefox, VLC seems to bomb out completely.

When I've got the connection back, all that's on the screen is a traffic cone :( I have to start again. Moving the progress bar give me a blank screen.

Under such circumstances, how do I set it up so that it holds on - and plays from where it left off when the connection comes back?

I swear,(bloody <- see) that I have seen the first 15 minutes of this film a dozen times....I want to get to the end...

What kind of operating system do you have? Have you tried trouble shooting the connection problem using the default mechanisms on your computer? I don't think its possible to pick up where you left off when you're streaming live through VCL, it probably recognizes it as an incomplete file and wont play it at all. There are ways to boost your wifi signal depending on what kind of router you have. see here-> http://lifehacker.com/296367/boost-your ... i-extender

You can also try updating your firmware and network adapter. For example, in windows 07 you go to start->right click computer->properties->device manager->network adapters->rightclick wifi link->properties->driver->update driver->select search on line for updates.

It is easier to use download manager and some youtube download service if you unstable internet connection.

Thanks for the quick replies!!! I am using Windows XP PRO SP 3.

My router is a Netgear WGT 624 v3
I have a constant strong (4 bar) signal - just that when I stream stuff, sometimes I lose connection - and the only way to bring it back up is seemingly to unplug the router for 10-15 seconds.

Before I do this, I have a still picture on VLC player from the last frame it showed, but, when I unplug the router, plug it back in and get back to my PC, my connection is back up, but, VLC is showing the traffic cone :(

Sadly, I only have a 40Gig Hard drive, so, downloading is not really an option for me :(

If you're using a crappy 3 g internet signal like me then it can take several hours to down load a 20 minute video. At that point it's not even worth it. I would rather stream the video live with something other than flash which seems to be impossible right now.

As for you, have you tried updating your firmware? This can make a huge difference in signal strength when certain driver software is outdated.
