URGENT!!!!! How to tell VLC player to hold on...

I am trying to watch a film.

Sadly, I have a wifi signal that is easily interrupted.
I unplug the router, wait 10-15 seconds, then plug it back in.
Unlike Firefox, VLC seems to bomb out completely.
When I've got the connection back, all that's on the screen is a traffic cone I have to start again. Moving the progress bar give me a blank screen.
Under such circumstances, how do I set it up so that it holds on - and plays from where it left off when the connection comes back?
I swear,(bloody <- see) that I have seen the first 15 minutes of this film a dozen times....I want to get to the end...
