No audio in QT movs > 2Gb

VLC 1.1.11 and probably back to 1.1.5 --

If the file size of a QuickTime MOV is less than 2GB, it plays fine.

If the file size is greater than 2GB, it plays video but no audio.

Is this a known bug? Can you confirm? Any fixes or workarounds?

Thanks.

I should add that for the same MOVs >2Gb, the video and audio DO play in QuickTime Player, so we know the audio is in there. However, the info window in VLC shows no audio stream; GraphEdt also shows no audio pin.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin if it's too long.

Also post here the full MediaInfo report available through the menu View -> Text.

mp4 debug: ignoring track[Id 0x2]
For some reason VLC ignores the audio track, so audio is there but VLC doesn't want to handle this.

Is there any sample file I could download?

Well, no short sample... it has to be bigger than 2Gb, of course. Pretty long download for you (and longer upload for me). But if you're willing to try, I am too. Let me know how you would like to work it.

Either upload to our ftp or to any other.

Please cut a sample of this file, 100 MB max should be enough, and upload it to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to Multiupload.com, so it will upload the file for you to several other hosts, and then post the link to the file here.

Use DGsplit and read here about how to do it:

I'm experiencing this same problem. I've got a 72min / 13.3 GB QT file that plays video but not audio in VLC. When I get information, I see the video Codec (MPEG 1/2) but there's no audio and the audio control options ar enot enabled. It's as if VLC doesn't recognize the audio track. I tested the same file format and codec configuration with a much smaller file and had no problems, so it does appear that file size has something to do with this. Maddenlingly, I can hear the audio in Quictime and iTunes, but not play the video.

Is there any work around here?

Thanks.

Please do what has been asked in previous posts, we need a sample.
We want to see how these files are made.

OK, I've put a >2G mov that demonstrates this problem on my own ftp site (it's a movie we sell, a commercial product, so I would prefer not to just upload it anonymously). Please contact me at my gmail account (same username as this forum), and I will send you the login information.

BTW, clipping just 100M or so won't work, because < 2Gb, movies play fine. It's when they are >2Gb that the audio gets ignored.

To answer how the movies are made... in After Effects. Source frames are sequentially numbered 1408x1408 pixel JPGs, audio is 48kHz WAV. Rendered as QuickTime MOV, Photo-JPEG compression, Medium Quality.

Could you generate one with random image(s) and random audio? That way we could avoid damaging your company.
