Milky video playback - washed out black

Hello guys,
I have an image to show you how vlc plays the same video compared to windows media player and also premiere pro cs5.5 fromwhere the wmv file was created.

Image

You can see the vlc is very milky compared to the wm player.
I tried to find some gamma setting or some way to tweak the levels but could not find them. Im sure they must be there, vlc has a LOT of advanced settings and video gamma is not that advanced ;)
Thanks guys,
Mark
PS, this fourm seems to crop the images on the right hand side, so please make your browser full screen to see the wmedia and premiere original.

Thanks!! that worked just fine!
I wonder why wm player did not need this tweak, neither does premiere pro...
the answer is probably a bit over my head anyway...
cheers
Mark.

This does not work for me. Any ther suggestions? I would LOVE to use VLC but it looks awful with grey blacks.
