Firefox VLC plugin not available, no installer for VLC

Postby darius » 16 Aug 2011 19:35

Hi,

installed VLC for Windows (XP) as download file, no installer, just moved into c://program files/

No chance for vlc installer for Windowes (XP) , as previously installer created directory videolan and copied files into it.

Today I did it manually.

Tried to install Firefox plugin vlc and failed.

Plugin page is
<EMBED pluginspage="http://www.videolan.org"
type="application/x-vlc-plugin"
progid="VideoLAN.VLCPlugin.2"
width="640"
height="480"
name="vlc">

But there is no installable plugin on this page, manual installation failed.

from
http://www.videolan.org/doc/play-howto/en/ch04.html
There are 2 files in my manually installed vlc

C:\Program Files\vlc-1.1.11-win32\vlc-1.1.11\mozilla

Windows

Quit Firefox or Mozilla

Copy the two files in VLC_Installation_folder\mozilla (usually C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\mozilla) to your mozilla plugins directory (Usually C:\Program Files\Mozilla\plugins or C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins).

Restart Firefox or Mozilla

Return to “VLC media player for Windows Troubleshooting”
