no multichannel audio

Hello,

I am using the last version of VLC on a Dell xps 1640 machine running Win7 Ultimate edition (32 bit).
I cannot send the 5.1 audio to the hdmi output (the dell is connected to an A/V amplifier. The video has no problem, the audio is only stereo).
I read also the 3d here
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=90274&p=298310&hil ... el#p298310
I cannot choose A/52 over s/pdif, it's not on the list!.
I installed IDT drivers and Realtek Drivers, but none of them solved the problem.
Maximum 2 channels they say....
I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670.

Before I used win vista and I managed to send the audio multichannel to the hdmi output...

update: no problem if the source has AC3 audio (I can choose the A/53 over Spdif, it is chosen automatically), but the problem is present on AAC audio.... can that be solved?
is it normal that realtek driver still says that 2 is the maximum number of channels, but I can see on my A/V amplifier that with ac3 multichannel sound the audio is indeed multichannel?

thanks!

AAC audio can't be sent as SPDIF. But it is possible to decode it and send it forward as 5.1 RAW (PCM or LPCM) audio, but in that case 5.1 should be visible in VLC (I don't know if this have been tested with VLC).

I could try that.... how can I do that?

and I don't know if I can ask here, which other player that supports AAc audio via spdif can I use? (in the case send me a PM, please!)

You could try MPC-HC. In VLC, just select 5.1

(not A/52 over S/PDIF as shown in image!)

EDIT:
This naturally works only with real HDMI output (display adapter has its own audio device). So Toslink and Coaxial cables won't do it.

I have a GBL cable. Is that a "real hdmi output"? ( I really don't know what it is, it's the 1st time I hear that).

I tried 5.1 but the sound is still stereo.
I mean I hear music also from the rear speakers, but it is NOT a 5.1... it's just the same sound of the front speaker.
On the panel of the AV receiver (Marantz 8100) I cann see that the signal he get is stereo only.

I will try MPC-HC, though.

You have to use HDMI cable. And use audio device of the display adapter.
