Problem watching ts-files

When I'm watching TV-recordings in ts format with VLC 1.1.11 there is a lot of horizontal lines in the picture. When trying Windows Media Player I get a perfect picture!

How can I get a better picture using VLC?

I have the feeling your video is interlaced. From the Video menu activate the Deinterlace feature then choose one of the Deinterlace modes.
You can also set it in the Preferences -> Video then on the right panel scroll down to Video. I suggest Automatic for Deinterlacing and Yadif or even better Yadif 2x (if you have a fast CPU) for the mode. Then save, exit and restart VLC.

Is it possible to jump forward using the keyboard keys when watching ts-files?

Time based seeking won't work since default TS demuxer doesn't calculate duration or timecodes.

I also have a .ts-related problem :

I have a HD video from television (with 8.7 GB) where the video halts every 10 seconds or so; but the audio continues. Is this a problem with VLC or could it be that my system (Intel Celeron E3400 @ 2.60 GHz, 2GB memory, Windows 7 Ultimate) is not powerful enough.

Thanks for your thoughts

Let me add a 2nd question: would it help to convert to another format (e.g. using the H.264 Codec). If so, which container?

Friends

let me answer my own question. I used AVS VideoConverter to put this into mkv format and it works. The stutter is gone
