Vlc wont open greek subtitles

Postby nasta » 30 Jul 2011 22:53

Its impossible for me to open an .srt file with greek subtitles on VLC v.1.1.11. I have tried changing the default encoding and then restart the program and nothing happens. Can you please help me? Its really annoying. :x

Open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback. The messages will be printed to that dialog.

It has no greek encoding? Open VLC, go to Menu/Tools/Preferences. At the bottom select Show settings/simple and go to Subtitles & OSD. Right next to "Default encoding" you should change that to "Greek (Windows-1253)", then press Save and restart VLC. As for uploading a file (the subtitles), you can use any upload service like Mediafire or Rapidshare... google them.

Are you sure this is exactly what you do and that there is no Greek-Windows 1253 option? Please check the picture. Do you press the arrow in the right to see the complete list? If you still can't find it, uninstall VLC, redownload the latest version and install again, checking 'Delete preferences and cache' option.

It's not a special version, it's the standard VLC v.1.1.11 Windows download and I would assume the same encoding options are available to all, regardless of Windows' language. Get it here. Remember to select "Delete preferences and cache".

I can't think of anything else then. It'd be interesting though if you uploaded a screenshot.

Go to the VLC Prefs at the same screen as I did. Press the "print screen" button on your keyboard. Open Window Paint (or similar program) and paste. You will see the entire screen capture pasted. Crop it if necessary, save the picture, upload it to mediafire.com and give us the link.
