Screen goes stand by

I got a laptop but I can not see movies with VLC because the monitor goes in stand by after the defined numbers of minutes.

OK VLC prevents screen saver, why it can not prevent monitor going off? Should I move the mouse every some minutes while watching a movie?
It is not nice I need to raise the time limit every time I want play a movie.

At least the audio continues...

VLC should by default disable the stand by thing, if Disable screensaver option is checked. But there are certain situations where it won't work.
