space bar key won't work outside VLC

Hello,
If I have VLC open and not focused, all space bar strokes are redirected to VLC.
So let's say during VLC playback I open my browse and do a Google search, I get this : "howtofixvlcspacebarbug"
Any help?
I did a fresh install and it didn't work. I also happened to re-install Win7 for some other reason and the bug is still here.
