VLC Taskbar icon broken

hello everyone

i dunno if someone already ask about this or not
i only search abit and can't find it, apologize if there already someone asking about this

i just install VLC 1.1.10 few hours ago
seems the font cache seems not there anymore, or maybe developer making it faster dunno

but i have a little issue here
if i run VLC from context menu (right click -> play with VLC media player)
when the VLC pop in taskbar, the VLC icon is broken
this behavior not happen if i run VLC proggram directly from desktop shortcut

i tried to uninstall -> reboot then install it again
but still get same issue
rollback to VLC 1.1.09 fix the issue

OS: windows7 64bit sp1

i dunno if there some issue with the cache or what
as i haven't try many things (like using ccleaner to cleanup registry)
but this didn't happen on previous VLC

※note : i did uninstall with "delete setting + cache" check on ... and i also check on it on install option

like i said on my first post this issue happen on latest VLC (version 1.1.10)

i didn't get this kind of issue on previous version (1.1.9 or 1.1.8 or older version)

You didn't understand the word 'exactly'.
To me, it looks like an mis-installed VLC. Try redownloading it from videolan.org and reset preferences during install.

in my understanding the one you asking 'exactly' is the version that give the issue, right ?
i am loyal VLC user, and i keep updating my VLC to latest version (although i never test beta version)

here the time-line
1. i got update notice, so i download+install VLC 1.1.10
2. then i get the issue
3. so i uninstall the VLC, reboot the PC and tried re-install again
4. still giving me same issue
5. so i decide to uninstall VLC 1.1.10 and rollback reinstalling VLC 1.1.9
6. and back to normal

! its either something stuck on installation process or some cache issue on my PC
! its VLC 1.1.10 (Latest Stable version) that give me the issue

and like your suggestion, i did download VLC 1.1.10 again and try re-install again just few minutes ago
and it give same issue

and i did (always) reset the perference during install
correct me if i wrong, but reset perference = remove setting (the one that can selected when uninstalling + installing), right ?
i don't know if there any other way (maybe such as removing/deleting manually on VLC folder)

Your issue seems like running a non-installed VLC, with a slight different icon than the usual one.

It seems like the embedded icon (,0 or ,1) in the vlc.exe program isn't read correctly by your system. I have to admit that I have never seen anything like this, and I thought it would be a vlc.exe corruption.

I have exactly the same issue.

I have uninstalled VLC player, downloaded the newest 1.1.10 player, and then re-isntalled.

After doing this my icon is also missing in the taskbar. Other than that, it seems to be working fine. Suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated, however it is not a big issue for me.

If you go to VLC install directory, do you see vlc.ico file and does vlc.exe show the same icon?

I am on a Win 7 x64 machine and am looking inside c:\program files(x86)\videoLAN\VLC. In this folder there is a vlc.exe file, but no vlc.ico file.

When viewing the appearance of the vlc.exe file, or for that matter, and file associated with vlc player, the cone is present.

I'm not sure why it does that, but it happened to me, too. Here's my workaround:

google search "vlc.ico"
Find an image that looks like the one you want.

Download the file, and put it in your program files\vlc\ folder with the executable file and other files.
Then, go into your shortcut link on the desktop or program list from the start menu and right click on it--properties.
Near the bottom in the middle should be a button that says change icon. Click it.
Navigate to the icon file you downloaded, and choose it.
Click ok to everything to get out of the windows.

Now the link should show the icon, and it should also appear in the box on the taskbar.
