Hello All,
First off, I'm very grateful to the VLC team, this has been my favorite video/audio player for many years. Lately though, it's beginning to try my patience. The problem generally goes something like this, and I notice it more often with video, than I do with audio.

I'll start a video playing by double clicking the file, generally an avi, but it seems to happen with DVDs and other files as well. The file will start playing and generally works for a while. If the show is longer than half an hour though, I can generally expect one crash. When the player does crash, I double click the file again and it comes up and asks me if I want to report the issue. I choose yes, and the file begins to play again.

Sometimes I can tell that it's about to crash because the playback gets choppy or the screen will freeze for a few moments and then catch up to the audio again.

If the file didn't crash and I move on to the next file, as soon as I open it via the double click method, it crashes and just closes. When I open the file again, I get that error again saying it had crashed. This was happening with 1.1.9 and 1.1.8 and on my home computer and my work computer. The only similarity between them is that they both use ATI graphics, although I've been running the same drivers on my home computer since I built it last year some time, but the errors have only been recent (2 or 3 months).

I read through a few other issues on this board, but none of them seem to be exactly like mine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If i can provide any other information that would prove useful, please let me know.

Love VLC, bit, it has been crashing under my install of Windows 7 x64. Interestingly, this install is using AHCI drivers for the SATA drives but, I believe the problem is within the video integration. Here's what happens:

When I open VLC all is good. I select a video file to play (it doesn't matter what kind of video) and as soon as the video starts to play it crashes. If I go in an change the video output option from Default to say, Direct 3D or Windows GDI there is no problem and VLC performs as it should. The crash does not result in a BSOD.

Like the OP, I also have an ATI card. However, I have an x1600 of which they do not make an updated driver so I am stuck with an older version of the ATI drivers or the MS drivers.

Is there a log file I can provide to the team? (I have selected, multiple times, to send the crash report.)

Then, you have to keep the video output option changed.

That's fine. But, it is odd. This was not a problem in the past and started with 1.18. I'd be curious to know if there is a technical reason for this.

Probably a video driver issue

Surprise, I no longer have the issue with the update to VLC 1.1.10. Something must have changed in VLC 1.18 and is now corrected. I did not change any system settings.

Mine is still crashing. I have the 1.1.10.
Sometimes when i clic video to open it the player crash.
If i clic when the last video is playing..the player did not crash. But if the video is finish and i clic on another it crashing.

Not only windows 7 64bit also see same issue in various versions of linux.

I am using windows xp 32bit and with an embedded rtsp stream using vlc latest version (1.1.9) it crashes the latest Firefox (3.6.1. when closing the tab or window it's playing on. This has also been true for the past versions of Firefox.

This is a bad bug that has been going on a long time. As much as I hate to it looks like we need to switch to quicktime on these rtsp embedded streams. Hate to loose one of the best players ever made but I guess all good things must come to an end.

Same here. Windows 7 64 bits and numerous crash and bug reports. Still with last version.
It's so bad that I had to come back to WMP.
"Probably a video driver issue" : might be that but I have last ATI drivers too. Hardware is ATI 350 APU wich is quite new. On the opposite this is the only faulty software I had so far.
I noticed that VLC has bad time with not perfect videos. I use to record TV (TNT) and if the file contains 'quirks' due to not perfect reception then VLC will stop reading the file or crash. WMP just skip the garbage and continue reading.

You can change the demuxer module to FFmpeg and see if that works better with those .TS files.
