Audio pauses when playing videos?

Hello.

Why does my VLC Media Player v1.1.9's audio pauses every several/few seconds or so when playing videos like MPEG-2, DVDs especially when they are on local SATA HDDs? Videos do not pause, but audio does. Visualizer doesn't seem to show them pausing.

I tried the latest K-Lite Codec Mega Pack's Media Player Home-Cinema/HC and it had no problems. My detailed computer specifications can be found in here: http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/computers.txt (old, updated Windows XP Pro. SP3 HTPC). I tried the latest drivers like my onboard RealTek audio. I only have analog 2.1 speakers so I don't need fancy audio speaker setup -- just good quality and lots of bass! :(

What's up? Thank you in advance. :)

Yep, that seems to work. What was Default using then and why was it pausing? Is it because of my onboard audio?

It might be a driver issue, or problem related to VOUT (which has too high priority and that causes issues for AOUT), or problem in VLC sync/timing code.

Ah. Let me know if you want this to be debugged/analyzed.

Hmm, it seems like the audio pauses a lot more with HD videos (e.g., 720p). It pauses even more if I set my video setup to clone to my CRT TV fullscreen.

Does it work any better with OpenGL video output?

Yes, that worked and Direct3D! However, I am unable to put my videos fullscreen on my CRT TV anymore from my PC. :( DirectX (DirectDraw) and Default let me do that, but I get the annoying audio pauses. Weird that video don't pauses in them.

Is there a way to have this OpenGL and Direct3D do fullscreen video overlays to my old CRT TV (640x480)?

Only DirectX and WinGDI support Overlay video output.
