No Video Playing m2ts

An m2ts newbie here. When I try to play m2ts video clip from my hard drive, it opens OK but there is no video (just a blue screen) but the audio is fine. If the clip happens to contain an FBI warning clip, both video & audio play fine. As I said, I'm a newbie in this area but it seems like there maybe some sort of a codec or graphics card problem.
What's wrong here & how can I fix it?

Is your CPU strong enough?

Yes! I5 quad core 3.2G.
According to what I read, VLC is able to play m2ts video. However, I haven't been able to find any information about setting it up to do so. Can some one please point me in the right direction so I can play my files.

I hope this is not unrelated, I don't want to confuse the issue.
I'm using version 1.1.7 and have no trouble playing my AVCHD Video (.m2ts) imported from my Sony Cam.
Where I have a similar problem is when I want to transcode my video into an MP4 format with the GUI preset:
Video - H.264 + AAC (MP4)
ecap=MP4/MOV
video codec H-264
Generating the generated stream output string:
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=0,scale=0,acodec=mp4a,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:file{dst=C:\\Users\\Bailey\\Videos\\soccer\\feb20\\feb20_test_t.mp4} :no-sout-rtp-sap :no-sout-standard-sap :ttl=1 :sout-keep
the file I produce shows me no video but with sound
I too would like to have video and not quite sure how my encoding process loses the video.
The same effort with a WMV file works perfectly.
