VLC Freezes after using "Next Frame" Feature

When I hit pause and then use the hot key "E" to go to the next frame, it will work for five or so frames and then VLC will freeze up. I have to 3 finger salute my way out of VLC. I tried this feature after a fresh reboot and even reinstalled the program...and the issue persists? Are there any fixes for this? I'm using Windows XP, Version 2002 Home addition, service pack 2.

... so after 5 years this bug is still there? Is there any hope that it will be fixed within the next 5 years?

I'm having the exact same problem. Always have, even through several upgrades. Windows 7.

Yes. Known issue. But so far, no backtrace was done.
