VLC doesn't save settings!

It's really annoying. It seems sometimes it does save, others it doesn't. when I close up the player it just forgets them. some settings eventually stick after a few tries but many don't :( Configuring the skins was really hard too. Some I can't get even VLC to remember at all: random play, visualizations, msn "now playing", etc... I already tried resetting the preferences and cache files, throwing away all the time spent fine tuning the damn thing, and nothing! It still happens

You set those settings via Tools -> Preferences and used Save button in there?

And those settings are stored to your %appdata%\vlc\vlcrc file?

thanks for the help.
Well, now VLC is saving most settings, but one remains most ilusive: when the option "MSN nowplaying" is enabled in preferences=>interface=>control interfaces, there is a field which reads "msn". I want to change it to "msnmsgr" so it will work with MSN live messenger but VLC doesn't remember this change. The first time I did it worked for a while but then it came to this. And there doesn't seem to be an option in the vlcrc file for the value in the field I described.

So far I've been able to get things right, eventually, but this apparent erratic behavior VLC has is really leaving a bad aftertaste... :( In skinned interface right-click only works for a while after opening VLC, some options are sometimes not saved, doesn't remember if it was set to randomly play all tracks, etc

msn to msnmsgr shouldn't fix anything since the name of the module is msn

there are some posts here in the forums who claim it is required to make it work, and it seemed to work at first when I made the change, before it became impossible to change it at all. but you're probably right, I finally got it working by changing the title format string from {0}-{1} to $a – $b – $t
