Buggy malfunctions with XP Pro, SP3 correctable?

I am getting an assortment of issues with the VLC player even though I've tried re-installing more than once, and from different sources.
1. Videos have frozen on an early frame with audio continuing to work.
2. When video did play it didn't always respond to slowing or speed-up clicks.
3. Although the icon for replaying the video was selected and would show as enabled, the video would not replay.
4. In all cases I had to use my task manager to close the program because the normal close options weren't working.

My guess is that I would probably find more malfunctions if I was able or willing to continue using the program, but there is something very obviously wrong here. Does anyone know whether there's a singular problem causing all these malfunctions, and is it correctable? Is more information needed about my system to answer these questions?

 Bingo!!!...Problems solved!!!.....Reverting back to VLC version 1.1.4 does eliminate the above stated problems, so huge thanks go out to Mega Cone Master for the simple but excellent reply. Too bad 1.1.4 has some other bugs of it's own (with my system anyhow), but we won't go into that now.
