How to use external audio file with video

I have an AVI file that has bad audio. There is a seperate mp3 file that contains the corrected audio. How do I get VLC to use the mp3 audio rather than the audio in the AVI file?

Use the advanced options on the advanced open

Ok I found it under advanced open (its on the file tab not under advanced options).
You have to check the "Play another media synchronously...) and then a browse button appears that lets you select the audio file.
Then you have to go to the audio menu and select track 2 (I thought it wasn't working until I figured that one out).

Thanks for the help

Hi! I know the post is quite old, but the problem is actual!! :D

I have a mkv file with no audio at all. Its audio track is an aac file (it was previously extracted from this same video, so it should perfectly fit). I tried to add this audio file by doing the following:
Media >> Advanced Open File. Selected my video file. Ticked "Show more options" then "Play another media synchronously..." and selected the aac file.

Nothing happens and the video is still mute. I read I should go to "Audio" and select my audio track, but under the "Audio" menu nothing is selectable
It seems the audio track wasn't selected, but if I come back to the Media menu, it shows that it's been added.
I am using Windows 8 and VLC version 2.0.7

Please help me, I need it for work!!!
Thanks :D

All combinations of video and audio do not work together...
