Embedded Subtitles Issues

Hey guys,

I tried searching in the forums but couldn't find the solution. I have a lot of 1080p blueray movies with subtitles. Most of the movies all have subtitles but by default are OFF, but if I want I can turn them on. These subtitles are embedded in the video file, there is no separate text file. However, I have these 2 other movies which have the subtitles ON by default which is really annoying. I can turn them off manually by going to Video->Subtitles Track-> Disable. However, I was hoping there is an option that automatically that will turn off embedded subtitles by default for all movies.

Basically, I want movies that have to show subtitles to show them when its needed or whenever the movie part calls for it like if your in a movie theater. I don't need to have subtitles playing for every word, so essentially I am saying I don't want to disable subtitles in entirely or always have to manually turn them back on for select parts. I assume most movie files are setup to play subtitles when its needed by default. I could be wrong though.

Forced subtitles (Forced subtitles only provide subtitles when the characters speak a foreign or alien language, or a sign, flag, or other text in a scene is not translated in the localization and dubbing process) are only supported in DVD movies. So you either watch with/without all subtitles, or you manually create/find forced subtitle file.

Ok that makes sense for forced subtitles.

However my question pertained to subtitles embedded in the video file. These subtitles have a track that can be disabled and most of the movies I downloaded have them off by default. However, I have 2 movies that have the subtitle tracks ON by default. I am wondering why these 2 files are ON by default and is there anyway to have embedded subtitles OFF by default for all movies.

The options are

--sub-track=<integer> Subtitles track
Stream number of the subtitle track to use (from 0 to n)

--sub-language=<string> Subtitle language
Language of the subtitle track you want to use (comma separated, two
or three letters country code, you may use 'any' as a fallback).

--sub-track-id=<integer> Subtitles track ID
Stream ID of the subtitle track to use.

they can be adjusted from command-line or from Tools -> Preferences (Show settings: All) Input / Codecs

Ok thank you! I ended up going to input/codec and changing subtitles track to 0, which made all movies by default Disable subtitles.

I guess now the only problem is, the MKV files usually have the (necessary) subtitles as a partial track that will now have to be manually turned on for specific movies, which stinks.

I've tried this and it works for some videos but not for others. ):

In the preferences dialog, you can set both the track number and the track ID. What's the difference?

track ID is used for ES selection, for example something like 20bd
