Stopping playback, freezes. Requires task manager to terminate.
When this happens, screensaver remains deactivated and SLEEP button function reverts to "Do Nothing".

VLC is not usable, and has gone downhill.
Running Windows XP SP3, VLC 1.1.5 is no better than in 1.1.4.
Running files locally in a playlist for instance, the VLC player crashes after playing the first video, unable to continue.
Fall back again to 1.0.5 for XP machines. It remains the only version that is stable.
However, I've pretty much stopped using VLC as other software works with my GPU.
Thanks to VLC, it was good while it lasted, but something seriously went downhill in the last 6 months with your program and testing.

VLC really crashes? Or just freezes and you have to kill it via task manager?

The latter.
Is VLC responsible for changing the function of my "sleep" button back to "Do Nothing" in Power options or do I have to investigate further?
1.0.5 last stable version huh?

If VLC crashes or is forced to shut down, it cannot return current power saving options (change is currently needed to disable screensaver).

I understand that. What I am asking is if VLC also changes the function of the pc SLEEP button.

Weird. It seems to change randomly after VLC crashes, together with the screensaver disabling. The function changes from "stand by" to "Do Nothing". No malware found.

VLC should only change SPI_GETLOWPOWERTIMEOUT, SPI_GETPOWEROFFTIMEOUT and SPI_GETSCREENSAVETIMEOUT. But that should change at some point when I finish the new screensaver code for Win32.

I have the same problem. The new version is unusable. SOmetimes rght at the beginning of play, other times in the middle of the movie the VLC player freezed and I must terminate process to quit. Very annoying. reinstalliung did not work and it does it on both my machines. I hope going back to 1.0.5 works. any idea when this bug will be fixed? or any workarounds?

We don't know currently what is causing these issues.
