Hi
I have a notebook (compaq 311c) on windows 7 32bits (atom + ion) latest drivers
I can play 720p movie perfectly but only on AC power
As soon as I plug off the AC power cord the video start freezing.. :(
So I guess the GPU acceleration turns off to save power

How can I force GPU acceleration on battery?

Nevermind I found a quick workaround, I enable maximum performance in the power options

GPU decoding is ONLY activated when you select it in preferences.

I think it is related to VLC timing code which goes haywire with power saving things (like Cool&Quiet).
