VLC 1.1.5 crash with files association

Postby Dark Genesis » 14 Nov 2010 06:31

Just updated from v1.1.4 to 1.1.5 on my Windows 7 Pro x86.
During installation / update I always uncheck all files associations and do them after installation is done.

Well, with v1.1.5, after I check some files assocation (only video), when I click on "Apply" button at "Setup Associations" sub menu, VLC crash and here is what I got from Windows:

Edit

I've made some tests and it appear that there is the same problem with v1.1.4
In fact, VLC crash IF THERE IS NO FILES ASSOCIATION AT ALL and make them after the program installation.

But if during installation, some files associotion are made, VLC doesn't crash ... well in fact under windows 7, if some files associations has already been made, when trying to add new ones , the VLC submenu doesn't open but instead the one from windows... didn't know that... it's weird and made difficult to add post new associations files....

Well, anyway here it is that I found so far... and doing files associations during installation works around the problem...

I noticed that before in 1.1.4 so now in 1.1.5 I set the associations with Windows Explorer and everything is fine. BTW, I am using a portable version (so you can't install it) and this is for XP Pro SP3.

may be its better so start vlc as admin when u want to change associations inside vlc
(mpc hc does this automaticly)

or better change association with windows control panel

I've tried this solution but VLC crashes if there is no association at all .
I can not tell from which VLC version this problem has occurred but definitely it was possible to make files association from scratch via VLC without any problem using older version.

VLCs own association dialog can crash aka known issue.
