VLC 1.14 Intermittent crash on RMVB

Postby WolfBrother » 08 Nov 2010 22:30

I have Windows 7 Home Premium. About one third to one half of the time when I play an RMVB file, and fast forward, rewind or jump around on the time, it will crash. I get a windows error that the player has stopped working.

Can anyone help?

Same here, since 1.1.x i cannot rewind or fast forward with real media files, => vlc has stopped working. Older versions e.g.1.0.5 are working fine. OS is Win7 x64. Also tried some nightly builds, same problem.

I am having problems with rmvb files as well with the 1.1.x versions, I am running Windows 7 64bit. VLC crashes whenever I try to fast forward, it even crashes when I close the video.

I had an older version 1.0.3 and reinstalled it and it is working fine.

Possibly off-topic. But this applies to Mac OS X as well.

Versions 1.1.x onwards seem to exhibit this problem, including the most recent 1.1.8 (tested on 64-bit version). Had to downgrade back to 1.0.5 to resolve the problem

Problem arose during the following - Fast forwarding, Seeking - for RMVB files.

I´m getting those errors since several months ago too

I mainly use the VLC to watch RMVB files and its boring to get those errors all the time. On 90% of the time i rewind or fastfoward, it crashes. Sometimes it takes minutes until i can see a video.

I´ve reported many times the errors but no result.

It happens at least on Windows XP, 7 and several PC´s

Please, correct this bug. On older versions, everything was fine

Yeh i'm having the same problems for vlc with rmvb files as well, and this doesn't just happen to a few rmvb files but almost all of them. So this past yr i just restrained myself from forwarding or rewinding... pain in the butt yeh...

I've tried to play the same files on vlc on xp computers, forwarding, skipping rewinding have no problems whatsoever, it just seems to happen on windows 7 only.

It'd be great if this could be resolved!

That sounds a bit strange since the RM demuxing shouldn't have any OS dependent codepaths.

yeh i dont know, too technical for me. but it is true the same file getting played on different OS has different vlc behaviors.

Does it matter if you do forward via hotkeys only?

Just curious. Is this fixed in 1.1.9?

It gives me hope each time I see a VLC update, but I'm always left disappointed. :(

Truly miss the older 1.0.x versions.

RMVB playback with VLC isn't perfect. VLC 1.2.0 builds might be a bit better.

I gave Full Control to all computer users to folder \Program Files\VideoLAN and it works.
