VLC 1.1.3 Doesnt play CDs

Ive searched topics here and would like to add that I've just did a fresh install of XP Pro SP3 32 bit in explorer and thru autoplay and File>Open Disc Audio CD (although selecting starting position track 1 instead of default 0 will play the one track then stops).

I think this is rather unreasonable to ask people to upload 500MB+, the point is it happens on ALL CDs.

So most people are having no problems with VLC 1.1.3 playing their music CD's?

It doesn't, which is why I ask.

In my case, the O.P., it does and an ISO wont make a lick to anyone troubleshooting this problem.

Another user has the problem
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=81910

listed on bug tracker but priority changed from high to normal, surely playing CDs is a pretty important thing for a stable release of a media player?

hey Hardcore.

I'm using build 1.1.4 on vista 32bit and audio CDs are fine. Autoplay works perfectly.

I've tried both my optical drives - flagged as D:\ & E:\... with D: being an LG DVD burner (not blu-ray) and E: is a standard LG DVD ROM drive (not blu-ray either). Both work ok.

I've searched through the forums relatively carefully and on the basis of audio CD posts regarding recent builds (1.0 onwards), the problems seems to exclusively be on XP and Win7. I'm not sure about XP but I've seen posts regarding Windows 7 32 & 64bit being affected.

That would seem to point to a platform related-issue.

Let's hope the VLC team can work out what's going on.

Regards,

Gary

The issue happens on Vista also. But certain additional delays in opening step do prevent the crash, so it might not happen on all setups.

I went back to ver 1.0.0 (arbitrarily) and Audio CDs (autoplay included) works fine. Im not sure which version my PC has problems with VLC yet though.

Installed 1.1.0 and an autoplay for Audio CD crashed but Open Disc... worked. Until I cycled the tray and now autoplay options are not displayed and Open Disc doesnt work either, VLC crashes.

It seams that this nasty audioCDbug has something to do with the
"Support for CDDB servers for Audio-CD on the Windows port" feature since the VLC 1.1.0 Windows-version.

A quick solution to play the whole Audio CD:

1) you don't select "Allow fetching media information from internet" when you start VLC for the first time
OR:
2) select in VLC: Tools->Preferences ->Interface
At "Privacy / Network Interaction" use dropdown and select "Manual download only"

So the bug is known and reported by many users. It would be nice not to put this option as default for the next VLC version, because many users don't disable the CDDB option, they just want to play a whole Audio CD and VLC just crash.
It would be better to put this option as default when CDDB works correctly someday.

This would be a very useful suggestion for the next VLC 1.1.5 version
to be considerate of our retro-users that still listen to their audio CDs, thanks!
