VLC Version 1.1.3 Won't play my Audio CD...

I have a rather old computer and it has two drives: one is a DVD/CD drive.
The other is a cd burner
When I load a disc into either drive, VLC won't recognize the disc. I want it to open VLC when I put a CD in.
Even when it doesn't recognize it, I try to open VLC and then Open Disc and nothing shows up for either drive.
If I try to press play, VLC crashes every time.
Steps to recreate bug:

Open VLC
Choose Media Tab
Open Disc
Nothing is listed on my device for D:/ or E:/
The D drive is my dvd/cd combo drive
the E drive is the cd burner drive
Under disc sellection,
if DVD is chosen and I hit play, I get a window that has the following:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://D:\'. Check the log for details.
If Audio CD is chosen and I hit play at the bottom, it crashes every time.
Can someone help me with this?
Do you want screen shots?
Thanks

This problem has existed since 1.1.0 and is mentioned in two threads, for me it still not fixed

I found a solution. A link to a build of version 1.1.4 and my audio CD plays just fine.

Audio CD issues in 1.1.4 when you download directly through the website.

If you use the build version of 1.1.4 as pointed out by marsinah, then it works fine.

Thanks for the solution, but hopefully this can be fixed for the direct downloads as well.
