VLC Player won't play my Audio CDs

I can't get VLC Player (v103, 110, 111 and 112) to open any audio CDs using the File>Open Disk... or right-clicking on the CD in Win Explorer and choosing "Play with VLC Player" (on more than one computer, all with Win XP Pro SP 3). I get this message:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'cdda://E:\'. Check the log for details.
I'm happy to post the contents of the log but can't find it.

I'd appreciate any help firstly to get VLC Player to read my CDs and second with the log.

Thanks a lot.

Otherwise, a top player! Image

Specify the trac when you use Media -> Open Disc... (this is a known issue)

I have the same issue & I am pretty sure it has been there for a number of versions, selecting track is pretty useless as this removes all the other tracks from the playlist. You also get a crash if you right click "Play with VLC media player" in Explorer, album art also does not show up.

No response? Surely playing albums/CDs correctly is a pretty important feature  ? I am pretty sure this has been broken since at least 1.1.0.

Hi bloggs / hardynicks

I've just posted a fuller statement here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=79145

However, in summary, using vlc 1.1.4, audio CDs do play.

The only thing that doesn't work is choosing a single track through Explorer or using the "open file" function.

As to album art, this works too.

VLC doesn't always find the right cover but my probs have occurred with lesser known DJ mixes that you'd not expect it to work with anyway, although at least it gets the right DJ. :)

Cheers,

Gazza

Hi bloggs.

If you wish, you could try the test build that I downloaded.

It is very important you realise these are development builds and work-in-progress (I.e. are not supported, could be unstable, etc).

Please read this to be aware of what I mean: http://nightlies.videolan.org/

From my limited understanding, the "branch" folders are best, as they are bugfixes, as compared to "trunk" folders which are future versions (in fact, I might put my money where my mouth is and try the latest 1.1.4 version :) )

Anyway, this is the link to the specific build I've been using: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win ... 0819-0203/

I've not had any probs so far with that version of 1.1.4.

Cheers,

G

I'm using VLC 1.1.4 and I'm still having problems with Audio CDs. If I tell the player to start the disc at track 1, it will play track 1 and then stop. If I don't specify a track, it crashes and shuts down completely. I never had this problem until I updated to 1.1.4. I've checked from the help menu to make sure I have the latest version and it says that I do. Does anybody have any suggestions other than rolling back to a previous version?
