It's a Converted ts file to ts with Avanti v0.4.8 using with also the following user commands

-slangen -scodec copy
and also tried with
-slangen -scodec dvbsub -scodec copy

Playing with vlc v1.1.2 after selecting show subtitle the same error is generated for both files Invalid subtitle stream id. Have tried using different much older versions of ffmpeg, and last stable avanti with no difference. Does this mean vlc has a problem and reason for showing this error, or is it something else ! If vlc which version should i go back to (until bug fix) for all to be ok again.

It's probably not a vlc problem or it is, The source file before avanti plays without problem with vlc. Can upload both test files later to ftp://streams.videolan.org/incoming/ if you need to look at them, Do i set ftp client for anonymous login, or need some other info for that ?

Sample would help. Anonymous login should work, but you can also use services like Megaupload.

I got a 56.8 MB RAR file which is corrupted. And BB1 (other).ts (output from avanti) is not inside the archive.

On a sidenote we don't need such large files, 20 MB samples will be enough for SD material.
Please build a new archive and upload it again in one single shot, the server won't allow you to resume an interrupted upload.

Yes i did have many retry attempts was downloading at same time. Originaly thought adsl was really two seperate pipes upload/download seems not to be. Later i left it upload alone from restart ftp reported upload was ok.

Original rar included all files and more, since avanti script is there you won't need all other files (should have thought of that). Will repackage leaving out x3 avanti encode tests and x3 ffmpeg versiions used, an included note will tell you of the avanti and ffmpeg versions used.

Well you don't get it: we do NOT want the working file but we want the non working one.
So please upload the resulting file after you have edited it through Avanti / ffmpeg.

And please, make it SHORT, we don't need more than 20 MB.

You have now the original file, avanti preset and ffmpeg versions. You also now can do the same test to get the avanti output file as i had done.

You need an avanti converted file that i have done !!

Don't quite understand why, since you now have all test files to do the same avanti output i have. The Avanti converted file i will uploaded soon.

I don't want to install Avanti, I don't want to use your scripts neither your versions of ffmpeg.

All of what we asked for is a 20 MB sample of a non working file. NOTHING ELSE.

Yep these DVB subs are a bit special, dynamic and colored, in fact few free players can play them properly and VLC is one of them (as long as you don't use any bobber deinterlacer).

Anyway it looks like ffmpeg can't deal with them and produce non compatible files. The subs can't even be extracted from a file created by ffmpeg.
After doing some quick tests it seems that ProjectX can do it fine. So you may want to remux your files with ProjectX. ProjectX can even extract the subs as SUP/IFO and IDX/SUB files but you may lose the color scheme.

So far vlc is the best to play these files for a long time.

I noticed this first as vlc couldn't convert them, then ffmpeg alone couldn't afterwards neither could many other softwares including avanti (ffmpeg gui). Projectx i know can demux them, to sup and it's idx file. From there No software so far can mux them together again, maybe as they are coloured subs. Keeping the streams as seperate isn't possible, i need to dump them to dvd as data need lots of hdd space. Playback of these data dvd with home dvd player, then in a year or so i intend to author them to dvd.

I don't visit ffmpeg boards or other could you please pass all this over to them. These type of subs aren't new, have been around for years before digital tv and since digital tv had started. Some refer to them as dvb teletext subs, they have teh same colors used with teletext. Thanks for your help in confirming where the problem lies ffmpeg, and is you also pass it all over to them to fix :)

.SUP files can be authored onto a DVD or muxed to TS with tsMuxeR and .IDX/.SUB files can be muxed to MKV with MKVToolnix.

Need to stay at dvd spec have no reason to convert anything to mkv. TsMuxer does work but not with these subs, best if ffmpeg is fixed easier that way.

Did you yet, pass this all over to ffmpeg team !
