Mouse cursor does not hide in fullscreen (1.1.2)

As of 1.1.2 the mouse cursor does not hide when fullscreen is set, If fullscreen controller is set to display it hides after the set time but the cursor does not. I updated from 1.1.0 to 1.1.2 without installing version 1.1.1 (including deleting preferences)

I have tried:-

1) Changing settings and restarting program (several times)
2) Restarting computer
2) Deleting cache/preferences
3) Uninstalling VLC including deleteing cache/preferences
4) Uninstalling VLC including deleteing cache/preferences + deleteing program folder

None of the above work, although upon uninstalling VLC and deleting preferences and reinstalling 1.1.0 the cursor now hides as it is supposed to.

Is there any solution to this problem as I encounter the standby/ctrl-alt-del crash with this version (1.1.0)

Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition
OS Version 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail)
OS Service Pack Service Pack 2
DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)

If you open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start playback, does it print messages about hiding cursor when you are using full screen mode?

Same problem here and this shows in the log:

main debug: auto hidding mouse
main debug: auto hidding mouse
main debug: auto hidding mouse

But mouse doesn't hide on FS.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah same as, setting verbosity to 2 gives the message:-

main debug: auto hiding mouse

But nevertheless it stays visible when in full screen mode regardless of the setting.

Anyone got a clue why yet?

Hello.

Nope, I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium (32-Bit). Using GPU Acceleration with an ATI HD3200 and Catalyst 10.7, but trying turning that off (I thought that was the issue), but it's the same.

YEs, I'm also having this problem. Would like a simple fix. I there anything in the settings I should take a look at? I'm using version 1.1.2 on a Windows Vista Basic. I do recall that this was not an issue with the previous version on VideoLAN which I happily ran on this same system. I do like many of the new features, though, but it's annoying having to hide the mouse pointer away at the side of the screen.

I am having the exact same problem on windows seven x64. I dont think i have ever seen the mouse cursor "hide" since i installed 1.1.2.
Is there any quick way around it?

I've since tried installing again on a brand new install of XP (virtual machine FTW) and i get the same issue. It's a different build of XP to the one on my machine proper. And judging from the other folks here it doesn't seem to be XP specific....

...waiting with baited breath, etc to find a solution....

I'm using VLC 1.1.2 on Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and I'm experiencing the same problem.
The mouse cursor won't hide when the playback controls fade away or any period of time for that matter.
Can't find anything in preferences to switch on so I guess it's a bug.

I use Windows 7 x64 and even with VLC 1.1.3 the problem exists.

This is really piling on pointlessly by now, but the same problem is driving me crazy.

VLC 1.1.3
Windows 7 64x home premium
Windows 7 64x professional

Unlike all the previous versions, it appears impossible to hide the cursor in full screen. Looking forward to seeing it fixed.

THANKS!!!!

I've been further experimenting with a way to solve this issue. I found that if I unzip the contents of the VLC install .exe and overwrite the files in my (installed) VLC directory the mouse cursor hides as it did with VLC 1.1.0.

I unzipped all the files in the VLC .exe (vlc-1.1.3-win32.exe) to the folder where VLC (vlc-1.1.0-win32.exe) was installed and then unzipped the files in $_OUTDIR also to the installed VLC directory the program then functions as it should and the mouse cursor hides in full screen mode. I did not know what to do with the contents of $PLUGINSDIR, so I left them alone.

I have played several different types of files and have not noticed any issues with my install since I did this and as i mentioned the mouse cursor hides as it should.

This may be of any help to someone in either fixing the issue on their own machine or to someone tracking down the cause of this issue.

Problem is plugins related since most VLC features come from plugins.

this sucks.
Every time a new version of VLC comes up I greedily download it hoping it's a fix to this problem, but it isn't. Otherwise I've no use for any updates as earlier versions played all my files fine anyway.

I have the same problem.

- Windows 7 64 bit
- VLC 1.1.4

The cursor never disappears in fullscreen playback.

The log message "main debug: auto hidding mouse" appears only if the mouse cursor is moved to the secondary monitor after entering fullscreen mode. But it does not hide.
It even appears after leaving fullscreen mode and then moving the mouse cursor out of the VLC window.

Although this problem was solved for me in 1.1.4 for some odd reason it still happens under the some circumstances...

i have:
- Windows 7 64 bit
- VLC 1.1.4

If i run windows task manager (at least with that i have confirmed the issue, it may happen with other applications as well) and enter full screen the mouse does not hide :?
I tested the same situation with windows media player and it has no such issue.
Can anyone else confirm this please?

Had the same problem, mouse pointer not auto-hiding in fullscreen.
Found a solution by disabling my custom skin and enabling native style.

VLC 1.1.4
Windows 7 x64

I can confirm that whilst win 7 task manager is active (minimised), the mouse pointer stays active in fullscreen VLC 1.1.4 . Using win7 32bit with nVidia 8400 card.
Shuttinng Task manager allows auto hide to function normally.

I still have the same problem. Using Windows Vista HP 32-Bit and VLC 1.1.4

I don't have the task manager present or any other program that I think could interfere with VLC.

Other media players hide the mouse on full-screen just fine.

Same issue here. Vista64, last VLC 1.1.4. Nvidia graphics.
I can confirm that this is triggered by having TASK MANAGER opened at the same time as VLC is running. Closing Task Manager returns the mouse pointer hiding to its normal state. Try it yourselves, just close TM and the problem disappears.
This is a bug on VLC player and I really hope it can be fixed soon because the pre 1 versions did not have this issue. It is an annoying thing really.

Thanks for all the help.

Same here, running W7 x64. I went to oldapps.com downloaded & reverted to VLC Player 1.1.3, problem gone. Now when I stream something or watch something in fullscreen, the panels and mouse auto hides.

I'm also running dual monitors, #1 as primary #2 as extended if that helps. I use second monitor for system monitoring & graphs.

I have the same problem with version 1.1.4.
I can also confirm that closing the task manager fixes the problem.
I also found out that the problem is specifically with the updating of the task manager. disabling the automatic update (view->update speed->Paused) fixes the problem as well.
