VLC crashes when trying to play a music CD

Postby sdim » 05 Aug 2010 17:18

Hi,everyone.
I've been using VLC for some time, but I've never encountered a similar problem/bug to the one I'll state now.
I upgraded to 1.1.2 (Windows 7) and when I went to Media-->Open Disc-->Music CD and told it to play the loaded CD,the application crashed.
I repeated the procedure, changing CD-ROM drives (I have 2 - one of them is external).
I did it many times over again and every time it crashed. This has never happened before.A possible bug?
I would appreciate the knowledge of more advanced users.
Many thanks.

Added comment:
I just tried it again.I saw that I had to specify Starting Position when I chose to play the music CD (which I hadn't),and when I did it,it started playing the CD normally. But now there's another problem: I click on Next Media In The Playlist (>> button) but I get the same track playing.
How can I play the whole CD?
This was easier by default in version 1.0.5...

It seems that this is a known bug.
I read the same thing in another thread.

Known bug. You have to add each track manually to playlist.

This thread is old, but the first one that came up in Google search, so I'll post a fix here.

This is a known bug, still a bug in 1.1.4 (http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3804). I "fixed" it (i.e., got VLC to stop crashing) by changing the "Album art download policy" to "Manual download only" (so VLC won't automatically try to download from CDDB). Then you don't have to change the start track and it will play the whole thing.

Fix, based on a comment on the ticket page:

Tools->Preferences ->Interface, then where it says "Album art download policy" use the dropdown and select "Manual download only".

That worked on Windows 7.
