AVI Index - way to save the fix?

The AVI Index panel that comes up every time I play my Canon SD870IS videos - AVI Index is broken, do I want to fix it. Is there a place it should be putting the fixed index so that next time it doesn't have to ask? How would I make that happen?
Is that related to the issue that once a file has finished playing, the window closes, so clicking the play button means that message appears again?
I'm sure with all the things this product does, this might seem like not much of an issue, but all I want to do it play my video, so it's a big issue when it always complains about playing it.
Win XP, Service Pack 2 (or 3 is asking to be installed - I assume that wouldn't make a difference?).
I don't understand the technical issues - just a clueless user, and I'm also trying not to hijack a thread, so this question is similar to part of another thread, but I think I had to ask it here as a separate query.
