vlc help

I have used vlc player for every type of file.
But now I use Media Monky just for audio files.
I have vlc player 1.1.2 how can I get it to just pplay all video files and DVDs????????????
I can find the fomat options for this

Reinstall and choose options you want to use.

Well if I don't Un install vlc and Re install it is there another way to get vlc to play just video??

Can't I go into some kind of setting and pick just Audio Formats???

There is association dialog under preferences but it is partially broken.
