VLC - Vista - ts files no image or sound

I have just installed VLC 1.1.0 on my Vista machine it plays avi mkv etc fine no problem but it wont play ts files from my Freeview PVR. I know Vista has some video output issues and I have tried changing the output as per some suggestions here. I also realise that VLC wont display time with ts files so no problem there.
When I open the ts file the progress bar moves left to right but I get no sound and no video just the orange cone.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Demux the TS file with ProjectX and mux with mencoder. It might also help if you remove few hundred kilobytes from beginning of the file.

Thanks very much for the advice. I may be wrong but I dont think it needs demuxing/remuxing as there is someone else on the avforum using the same PVR generated ts files and he is playing them straight off, no demux/remuxing using VLC he just doesn't know what he did to make them work. He said he installed VLC a while ago and it just worked out of the box !!!
Thanks for your help.

Hi. TS files will not play if there is a matching .srt subtitle file or .sub or .txt There may be more extensions. Those files will be ignored and the file will play if you use the --no-sub-autodetect-file option but you will get no subtitles. See bug reports 3075 and 3516.

Thanks jhb50 unfortunately there are no subtitles. I have tried switching off the 'no sub autodetect option' but still no video or sound.

VLC can incorrectly identify TS files because of the starting bytes, and it cannot play them. VLC might also fail with certain TS files if IDs of tracks are incorrect.
If you can share us one problematic file, I could check out what the problem is.

Thats very kind, thanks. I will try and get a small recording later today. Can I just upload to the forum or should I put it on a share site?
I dont know if it helps but someone else has the same PVR and thus ts files running VLC on a Windows 7 pc and his ts files play perfect. I am trying on XP and/or Vista. Running VLC V1.1.0.

I have just got the guy who has the same PVR and thus ts files to try VLC on his winXP machine and he has given me this error message:
The diagnostics says it wants "H264-mpeg4 AVC (part 10)" for video, and "MpegAAC (MP4A)" for audio.
He has VLC installed on his Win 7 machine and the ts files play perfectly.
Is that any help?

I have uploaded a couple of test ts files to mega upload:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TUZD81TY - HD recording.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=432CH9FU - SD recording - I installed KM player and now VLC plays this file but not the HD one above.
Both about 1 min long.
Hope that helps.
Thanks.

With HD file message log is flooded with
ts warning: invalid header [0x4f:ad:e1:14] (pid: 202)
ts warning: invalid header [0x6f:e6:ff:91] (pid: 202)
ts warning: invalid header [0xbb:d9:e2:44] (pid: 201)
ts warning: invalid header [0xdf:5b:cb:f6] (pid: 202)
ts warning: invalid header [0xfb:26:b6:c0] (pid: 201)
ts warning: invalid header [0xa7:c8:7:97] (pid: 202)
ts warning: invalid header [0x4f:c:63:42] (pid: 201)
ts warning: invalid header [0x95:9f:bf:d5] (pid: 202)
so remuxing is needed. You can use tool called
tsMuxeR to fix the file.

Hi guys.
I'm the chap that ched999 mentioned in his earlier posts. We've done a bit of work together in the past hour trying to bottom this out. When he previously mentioned that my .ts files would play perfectly on Win7 he was correct; unfortunately my tests were performed using files downloaded from the pvr before we applied a manufacturers upgrade to the software in the pvr. Tonight I have created new HD recordings and downloaded them to a PC running Win7, and to a USB port located on the pvr. The only way to watch these recordings is now on the pvr; no HD files exported from the pvr will play away from the pvr.
I'm guessing that this is the manufacturers attempt to implement DRM on HD recordings, a policy which (if I'm correct) is being implemented incorrectly, and too generally to all HD recordings.
Thanks for your support thus far; I'll grab tsMuxeR and give that a try myself.
Regards
Steve

tsMuxeR won't accept these files.... displays:
I shall persevere with the pvr and tsMuxeR
Many thanks once again.

This sample is encrypted thus it can't be played by VLC. This is normal and expected.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I do believe that the HD recordings are now encrypted
They PVR originally didnt encrypt HD recordings but a FW update changed all that
Anyway thanks very much for trying to help.
