VLC 1.1.0 Not opening older .m3u files

VLC 1.1.0 won't open previously made .m3u playlist files. It will open .m3u files that were made with VLC but not ones made by my CD ripping program (past versions have). Wha hoppened?

A bug.

Is this a bug that is going to be fixed? If so, any guesses when? I have over 400 .m3u files that aren't working and I would really hate to have to recreate them all.

Hi Lady Fitzgerald

I posted with the same problem. Seems developers created a new problem that was non-existent in previous versions of VLC. I have been told that this will be fixed in 1.1.1 (from the looks of the forum, it seems they have a very buggy release in 1.1.0) I wait patiently for this minor release 1.1.1 to fix most of the bugs. Till then, I would suggest to delete 1.1 and do a google search for vlc for previous versions (most third party sites are always behind in their copies anyway) and your .m3u playlist files will work flawlessly again. In the developers defense, they are volunteers, so I wouldn't lay into them too hard. *smile* :D

Update for Lady Fitzgerald

File Hippo has vlc 1.1 as their main download, but on the right panel they have all the older versions for you. 1.0.5 is the newest that plays .m3u playlists fine (that is what I am running) Hope this helps !

VLC v1.1.1 will be released... soon :P

In the meanwhile you can already check the test builds from here:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/?C=M;O=D

Get the most recent BRANCH version.
Keep in mind they are test builds and feel free to report any problem / bug found.

On a sidenote always download VLC from the official videolan.org sites and avoid third party download sites.

If it isn't too long, I'll just wait for 1.1.1. I'm reluctant to use earlier verisons because some of them have become securtity risks (according to Secunia). I didn't mean to give the impression I was busting anyone's chops over the bugs (especially since I'm getting far more than I "paid"), I was just wondering what was going on and if would be fixed. Thanks for the info.

1.1.1 test build (July 8) solves the problem. Just wish the install would be fixed to recognize the previous settings and leave file file associations alone.
