Noticed the same problem described here for "Win32" platform. Develops under win7 x64 aswell.
Tried to run it under xp sp3 compatibility or "as admin" - same thing - crash.

Just a note.

I see the same thing with Win7 64 bit. AS soon as I click apply it hangs. I also tried running it as admin but no difference.

Version 1.1.2 and still the same bug, it's really annoying, when is it going to be fixed??

Vlc 1.1.2 , zip version
Windows 7 64 bits

You realize that "VLC crash" is the most vague thing ever?
You jump in a conversation and say you have the same bug? How are you sure it is the same?

I'm following this conversation since several weeks ago, today I downloaded VLC 1.1.2 and when I associate the file extensions and click apply vlc crashes, I think it's reasonable to think that the problem has not been fixed yet, it happened in 1.1.0, in 1.1.1 and now also in 1.1.2, at least in my computer.

Trac ticket is still open, so the issue hasn't been fixed.

XP SP3 W32 v1.1.4
Bug still present for me also.

When I de-select some files it does not save them after clicking apply/save.
When I de-select other files .mp2/3 on clicking apply it crashes.

Hi ! I have the same problem - the player crashes when i click apply in file association settings. My OS : Windows Home Premium 7 x64bit. My player : VLC media player v. 1.1.4 (Portable) [ http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0EB26F5C - VLC_Portable_1.1.4_Multilingual.paf ]

The latest night bulid seems to be progressing in connection with this problem.

I no longer get any crash when applying file associations, however the save function doesn't seem to work on all file types.
eg. I de-selected .mp3 then saved & on restart it remembered my selection, when I de-selected .avi & saved on restart it was still ticked :?

I am using Win 7 x64 with VLC v1.2.0-git-20110913-0006

Applying the file associations does not crash the application. However no file associations are actually made.

Please update Trac ticket

It needs new ticket. Crashing and "won't do anything" are two completely different issues.

Awaiting new ticket URL...

@VLC_help Can you please create a new ticket for this?

We would love to see this issue resolved in the next version.

Thanks in advance.

Yes. During this weekend.
We would love to see this issue resolved in the next version.
Many people would like that. But I doubt that will happen, since the associations has been broken for ages.
