VLC freezing computer when closing

Hello,
I have a problem with the VLC 1.1.0 and with all the previous versions. When I open an AVI file, it plays with no problems, but when I close the player window, my PC keeps working for a few seconds and then it freezes completely, including mouse cursor and stuff.
