VLC media player 1.1 crashes when watching IPTV udp protocol

I have trouble with the new version 1.1.0 of VLC media player for Windows. I tried to reinstall, delete preferences and cache - nothing helped. Version 1.1.0 crashes, 1.0.5 is okay.

So, let me tell you what happens. With version 1.1.0 there is new functionality when watching IPTV via udp protocol - when switching from movie to commercials, aspect ratio changes and VLCmp 1.0.5 doesn't adjust it, whereas version 1.1.0 adjusts aspect ratio dynamically. This can go successfully for hours and then it crashes during aspect ratio change or it can crash when first aspect ratio change occurs. I have clicked YES everytime VLC has asked me if it should send crash report to developers, so I hope they can figure out what is happening, because I really like this new funcionality with aspect ratio, but I can't use it - not until it's stable.

Anyone else experienced this? Any solutions, suggestions?

Here are my specifications if needed:

OS: WINXP SP3 32-bit, CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+, RAM: 3×1 GB SAMSUNG PC2-5300, HDD: SAMSUNG HD320KJ, GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4770 512 MB

Can you share a sample?

The AR change happens near the end. When it changes from commercials to a soccer match.

I cannot replicate the crash. Is there anything other than time that might have an effect on this?

I just tried to playback my sample to see if it's a good enough sample for what I'm trying to show you. And it is. VLC media player 1.1.0 just crashed when AR change should happen. I have again sent the crash report to developers...

I have no idea what might cause this. But I can tell you a bit more about my settings. As you can see, the sample is interlaced. And I watch IPTV on my computer LCD screen, so I have deinterlacing enabled. To be more specific, I have Yadif (2×) mode enabled. Maybe that could be where 1.1.0 is having trouble? Let me just say once more, 1.0.5 or previous versions have never crashed on me. But it's also true that older versions couldn't do dynamic AR change during playback.

EDIT: VLC media player 1.1.0 just crashed when AR change happened and I have disabled deinterlacing. So it's not that.

File a detailed bug.
And try 1.2.0 on those issues...

I hope it's OK.

And I also can't find 1.2.0 anywhere. I know I found 1.1, when it was still beta and RC, but I just can't find 1.2.0 now. :)

Thank you. I have tried 1.2.0 now and it's exactly the same as 1.1.0. It crashes randomly at AR change.

I have just successfully replicated the same thing on another computer. Version 1.1.0 crashes just the same as on my computer, previous versions don't (they don't even support dynamic AR change).

The specifications of this second computer are:
OS: WINXP SP3 32-bit, CPU: AMD Duron 700 MHz, RAM: 1 GB Transcend PC3200, HDD: WDC WD100EB-00BHF0, GPU: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 32 MB

I am really surprised that no one has confirmed this yet. I read here in this thread that it's not reproducible and also in my bug report, which was set to low priority because of this.

EDIT: Finally, somebody else confirmed this type of crash in my bug report. Now I can be taken seriously at last and I hope now the developers can start searching for the bug. :D

EDIT2: I have uploaded two more samples:

I had a similar problem when I was using 1.0.2 and I solved it by using FFMPEG instead of libmpeg. You can do this by adding 'codec=ffmpeg' as a parameter.

Thank for the advice, durzagott.

Unfortunately with command-line-parameter --codec=ffmpeg I get the same crashes but more often.

EDIT: I have since tried versions 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 and all remains the same.
