"Set Video mode to OpenGL" in Start Menu

Normally in Windows XP, when I double-click on a file, the application opened appears for a while in the Start Menu. But with VLC, what appears is "Set Video mode to OpenGL", which, when selected, flashes a window up but, otherwise, does nothing.

What I would expect to happen is an icon "VLC", which, when selected, would bring up the VLC window ready to open a video file.

What's going on here?

Thanks -- Vincent

Use VLC 1.1.0

And if it still happen, remove %appdata%\vlc folder.

I was already running 1.1.0. I renamed that VLC folder "VLC HIDE". That worked just as you said.

But all my Preferences are reset. You know which files I can copy over to get them back?

They are gone. Settings are saved to %appdata%\vlc\vlcrc file which sometime can become corrupted and cause issues like that.
