VLC Media Player records from .avi into .ts?

Hello, I'm using VLC Media Player 1.0.5 and Windows XP(I know that XP is old)

Yesterday, I tried to record a section of a 173 MB .avi file, using the record button, it worked and I had the recorded the section I wanted in .avi.
BUT, today I tried doing the exact same thing with another 170 MB .avi file, but this time the recorded section was in .ts, with only the audio and no images whatsoever.

Everytime I try the first file it always records in .avi.
And everytime I try the second file it records in .ts.

Does anyone have any ideas about why VLC reacts differently with the two .avi files?

And does anyone know how I can make VLC record the second file in .avi format?

Help is much apretiated!

You used tool called Mediainfo to verify the container formats?

No, but when I place my cursor above the file it tells me: "Type: VLC media file (.avi)" or in the other case "Type: VLC media file (.ts)"
Do you think that Mediainfo will be able to reveal the problem?
